Drinks & Nightlife

We love this place as it is a micro brewery with a twist. They hold regular evenings ranging from comedy, folk music, film nights and quizzes. Home grown beer is fab but they have heaps of guest beer too.

Great traditional pub. They have occasional funky events with live music taking centre stage. If you can get to see Thom Kirkpatrick we would recommend popping in as he is great. We have also seen the Peas perform here with a great acoustic set featuring interesting takes on contemporary songs. Serves decent food too. The Rose is some where I would take my parents to to kind of impress them. The mornings here are pretty lazy events with lots of reading the paper over a nice coffee. Its dog friendly too.

Food Scene

We go here for great sea food and sandwiches. Its an odd combination I know but Cathy and Sam will be great hosts to you. They also make a reasonable fry up. Their place is eclectic with a seriously odd mixture of decoration that defies explanation really.

Truly awesome Portuguese style cakes. If you haven't had Portuguese cakery then you are in for a treat. You will have to watch your waist line. Mandy (the owner) makes great coffee too. There's a lunch time menu on and occasionally they have evening dining. Mention my name and you may get a smile!

This is a restaurant in a converted 1950's aeroplane. Its on the edge of the Coventry Airport but don't let that put you off. The meals here are "pub like" in nature ie roast dinners and fish and chips. The experience is what you are going for. The staff dress in 1950's style and it makes for a great Sunday lunch. Pre book though as the spaces are limited.

This is a gastro pub built on the site of a super old (probably Saxon Mill). There is a working water wheel and the views across the avon at the rear are stunning. On a nice day the "Edwardian walk" takes you to a church in Milverton that is insanely beautiful. However even if its dull the view to the ruins of Guys Cliffe is worth popping in just for a swift half.

Sightseeing

Frankly one of the main attractions in Warwick. It is a bit pricey, but I believe it takes the Tesco vouchers. Its worth allocating a day here as there are usually heaps of attractions once you get inside. There are falconry and jousting events throughout Summer. There is also a trebuchet which is a medieval cannon thing that launches huge rocks which also is a thing to behold.

Stratford is famous for all things Shakespeare. There are heaps of things to do here from visiting the theatres to the Shakespearian houses. Its about a 20 minute drive from the house. There are buses and a train service too. Well worth a day trip.

Shopping

Its a bit unfair of me to label Leamington as a shopping mall. I put it in as there are a load of independent shops that you will not find elsewhere in the country. There's a great café culture too with a load of bars, restaurants and pubs to check out.

Birmingham has transformed itself in recent years. If you think its simply a nasty station on your way up north or down south think again. Avoid driving and take the train from either Warwick or Leam. New Street station an amazing modern piece of architecture and is something of great beauty. As is the Selfridges building. John Lewis has recently landed here too. Check out the library (yes library) for some iconic scenes on the roof terrace too.

If you need an emergency bottle of Prosecco you can pick up a chilled one from here. It is a petrol station really but with a mini M&S built in. There's a mini bakery along with all the other stuff you would expect from M&S.

Entertainment & Activities

This is a train journey away but it is well worth a visit. What they used to call a "flea pit" has been transformed into a cinema experience. They have leather sofas that you can rent and watch the latest movies (or arty ones for that matter). I take my kids here because they love the idea of texting for drinks and sweets mid presentation... it makes them feel like a VIP.

Arts & Culture

The RSC has a few theatres in Stratford (not just the one at Waterside). While they mostly show Shakespearian material they also have events with more contemporary writers. Apart from Shakespeare we have also been to comedy festivals and musicals here. It takes about 20 minutes drive to get here. While you can take public transport to the event its likely you will need a cab back.
