It's about 6 miles and has art and nature installations. The eastside Esplanade has great views of the city skyline and has the longest floating walkway in the country.
The thoughtful Tilicum Bridge is the only one in the country not built for cars. The Aerial Tram is on the downtown side. The Rail Museum on the eastside.
The steel bridge is the 2nd oldest vertical lift bridge in the country and the lower level is just for people. The downtown side Tom McCall path goes along the Saturday Market and Oldtown Chinatown.

Parks & Nature
Not sure if Mt. Hood is a park or not but it sure is a mountain. Timberline Lodge was built in the 30's by the Works Progress Administration. The facade was featured in "The Shining". The decor inside is fascinating, woodsy and classic. The massive fireplace is over the top. Also there's a restaurant. Good for picnics in the warmer months. Interesting mountain flowers in the spring. About a 1-2 hour drive depending on traffic.

Mount Hood
Not sure if Mt. Hood is a park or not but it sure is a mountain. Timberline Lodge was built in the 30's by the Works Progress Administration. The facade was featured in "The Shining". The decor inside is fascinating, woodsy and classic. The massive fireplace is over the top. Also there's a restaurant. Good for picnics in the warmer months. Interesting mountain flowers in the spring. About a 1-2 hour drive depending on traffic.
Why see this rock? Because it's there. You have to see it to believe it. Apparently it's a lava formation. A huuuge lava formation. An unbelievably stunning beach. If you have the time, go go go! A little under 2 hour drive from Portland.

Technically this water/rock formation is located in a National forest but it's on the coast 101 highway between Newport and Florence. Go at high tide. It's incredible to see in person. A little over 3 hour drive time from Portland. Worth it.

The "beach" consists of perfectly formed round black balls that were lava bubbles from millions of years ago. Don't take any of the lava balls! It's literally a federal offense. There's park rangers watching. This is the most bizarre "beach" you'll ever visit. Can be difficult to walk on though and tons of stairs going down to beach. Also there are unbelievable tidepools with colorful starfish, sea urchins and anemones. Bring rubber boots!
More accessible is the lighthouse with a spectacular view of the ocean. You might even see spouting migrating whales! About a 3 hour drive.

There's 2 grocery stores, one of them natural. A small department store, vintage, a copy place, library, childrens, ice cream place and more. It starts at about 50th and goes to about 40th. About a half hour walk or 5 minute drive.
