It is the closest coffee to us and it is one of the coolest spots on the block. Nice atmosphere, friendly people and great coffee (or so Jamie says and she recommends the Americano). I am more or a tea drinker and I like how when you order a Chai tea latte here, they will ask if you want the sweet kind or the spicy, which is my favorite.

It is an old iconic amusement park that is waking distance from our house (near the river). While the park closes for the winter months, the classic old roller skating rink is open year-round.

The Nature Playground is a great place for young kids. Sand pits, logs to walk on, hand pumps to operate, toys to play with etc. The Portland Petanque Club is also located in this park. This is where you will find me just about every Sunday and Wednesday from noon until dark, rain or shine. Petanque is the French version of Bocci Ball and it is played with steel boules about the size of baseballs. It is one of those "easy to learn, but takes a lifetime to master" kind of games. We have extra boules for you to use. Beginners and kids are welcome and it's FREE. Located across the street from the tennis courts at the north end of the park (SE 23rd & Bybee)

Want to get into some snow, even in the summer? Take the 1.5 hour drive to Historic Timberline Lodge. You won't be sorry! And for skiing, if you like awesome views and mostly Blue runs, this is a good destination. You will find more expert (Black Diamond) terrain a bit further up Hwy. 26 at Mt. Hood Meadows. For night skiing, under the lights, Ski Bowl, has the largest night terrain in the country (and it's upper bowl has some of the mountain's steepest runs). Ski Bowl is the first area you reach on Mt. Hood and you can be there in an hour. They also have a summertime toboggan course, mountain biking, and other summer adventure activities.

And for skiing, if you like awesome views and mostly Blue runs, this is a good destination. You will find more expert (Black Diamond) terrain a bit further up Hwy. 26 at Mt. Hood Meadows. For night skiing, under the lights, Ski Bowl, has the largest night terrain in the country (and it's upper bowl has some of the mountain's steepest runs). Ski Bowl is the first area you reach on Mt. Hood and you can be there in an hour. They also have a summertime toboggan course, mountain biking, and other summer adventure activities.
I believe this park is recognized as the only wilderness area within a city limits in the USA. Miles of hiking trails await.

It is a designated wildlife refuge and it is located "right over there!" The trailhead is right behind the baseball field at Selwood Park. Turn right at the bottom of the hill and follow the trail along the base of the bluff for about a mile and a half. At that point you will see a trail to the left that will lead you to the bike trail along the river. Turn left and you can follow the Springwater Cooridor back to Spokane Street and back to our house, making it about a 4-mile loop. Great for walking, running, birding, etc.
