It's easy to get around but Los Angeles is a big city... most things seem relatively close but you always have to factor in TRAFFIC! You can be at the beach in 20 min but if it's 5:00 on a Friday it will take you 2 hours, please plan for it and it will make your stay so much better and you'll fit it all in!
