Be cautious of the weekends however, by Friday a lot of fresh produce and meats are pretty well picked over and won't be replenished until the later in the week. Such is the price we pay for being in a remote location.

This is a great stop off to get information regarding the various hiking trails in and around Prairie Creek National Park and other parts of the Redwoods. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in directing visitors to must see areas of the park.

The trail itself is about 2 and 3/4 miles long however, we recommend hiking to the falls which is about 1/2 mile in and then turning around. Trail is easy and falls are lovely.

The trail can be reached either by driving on Davidson road (fording a stream along the way) or you can hike to it from the visitor's center at Prairie Creek Park. This is a fee area and a popular tourist spot in the summer.

The Requa Road overlook provides views of the mouth of the Klamath as it meets the Pacific Ocean. You can hike down to the Klamath River from this spot. It is one of 3 overlooks in the area. The other two are the High Bluff Overlook and the Crescent City Overlook. All provide a commanding views of the ocean and whale watching when they are passing through. Visit the Requa Inn along the way, this is a historic hotel built in 1914 and offers rooms with river views as well as family style dinners made with organic locally grown food.

If you only have a short time available and aren't traveling south but want to experience driving through a redwood, the Klamath Tour Thru Tree is just a short distance away. It is one of 3 such trees, the other 2 are located in Leggett and Myers Flat off from Highway 101. The Chandelier drive-thru tree in Leggett is the best one but the Shrine Drive through tree in Myers Flat is more intriguing as it is hollowed out all the way through the top.

It is one of 3 such trees, the other 2 are located in Leggett and Myers Flat off from Highway 101. The Chandelier drive-thru tree in Leggett is the best one but the Shrine Drive through tree in Myers Flat is more intriguing as it is hollowed out all the way through the top.
