Sightseeing
The following are fun or interesting places that I have enjoyed visiting time and time again. I hope you enjoy the diversity of this area as much as I do. Disney, Universal Studios and Sea World are all also an easy visit, about an hour drive, depending on traffic. Just pack your favorate walking shoes.
A beautiful spring where the manatee stay in the winter when the weather gets colder. Manatee are large endangered mammals that gather in the Springs because the Springs are warmer than the St. John. There are walking trails, swimming and canoe rental. You may find yourself swimming next to a manatee or a playful otter. But always be cautious of alligators.

Daytona Beach is home to the world famous beach and the Daytona 500. Daytona also hosts Bike Week in the spring, Biketoberfest in October and Spring Break to name a few events. In the summer every weekend the bandshell, on the ocean has concerts and ends the evening with fireworks. There is a pier and many notable restaurants and Beach bars. An easy day trip.

Nearby is Hontoon Island State Park, which has a free ferry across the St. John River, walking trails, a small museum of local history and wildlife.

A Spiritualist Community, it has lectures, classes, mediums, psychics, restaurant, bar and a communal history. A must visit for the Spiritualist or new age hippie.

The Veda Foundation Cow Sanctuary is a Hindi Ashram. An interesting visit includes seeing the cows, the temple, perhaps yoga classes or enjoying a vegan meal. In its early stages of development, there are gardens, canoes, flowers, and an interesting cultural experience. The Cow Sanctuary is located only a few miles from the house on CR 42 toward Paisley.

Its quiet scenic and a good chance to see an alligator. Always be cautious around any water source in FL, as there is always the possibility of an alligator.

Hontoon Island State Park
2309 River Ridge RdA free Ferry Boat ride across the St. John River takes you to Hontoon Island. There you can hike, visit a small museum and let the kids play at the playground. Its quiet scenic and a good chance to see an alligator. Always be cautious around any water source in FL, as there is always the possibility of an alligator.
Ed Stone Park is a great place to sit and relax, watch the St.John River and the Whitehair Draw Bridge. it is also a public boat ramp.

On Wednesday mornings at the Volusia County Fair Grounds on 44 by I-4 a huge farmers market Springs up. Be sure to go early, stands begin to close by noon.
