Riverwalk downtown on Houston St. Ahhhh....now THIS is different. On a less-crowded area of the Riverwalk. Chef Michael Sohoki serves fresh food, hand-prepared as it was 100 years ago. Menu changes daily. Today it may be Greek, tomorrow perhaps Hawaiian. Creative, concept restaurant with local ingredients, hand-made and fresh fresh fresh. Beautiful outside view of the San Antonio River or inside where it's quiet and cozy.

Near NW San Antonio off I-10 One of my favorite places to get quick in and out tacos, or more accurately, taquitos (little tacos). You choose the meat, but everybody gets the same thing - 3 taquitos and sides. They don't speak English and you pay when you leave. Everybody is same price unless you buy a drink, and they have Mexican sodas and Topo Chico water. About $8. Can't beat it and the experience is great.

Nearby and numerous locations. Two close by - Blanco Road or 1604/281. Some of the best San Antonio breakfast tacos. Several locations and they're all good. Fast, easy, and inexpensive. I originally categorized this as "theater" because the cathedral at night becomes a unique light show, but then I changed it to "art gallery" because it's really the backdrop for an amazing work of art created by a French light artist. It depicts the story of San Antonio, using the architecture of the cathedral as its medium. It's free and I think every night from Tuesday thru Saturday. Google "The Saga." Downtown on Main Plaza

A HIGH POINT FOR A HIKE - GREAT VIEWS Historic tower with great view of downtown SA. During the Spanish Colonial period, the Apache, and later the Comanche Native Americans, lived in the area as they likely utilized the waterways including nearby Cibolo Creek. The hill was also a prominent landmark for travelers in the 18th and 19th centuries. The El Camino Real de los Tejas or The Royal Road of Texas, running from San Antonio to Nacogdoches in East Texas, extended past the base of the hill along Nacogdoches Road. The road followed earlier Native American travel routes and today is a designated National Historic Trail.

If you like old architecture, San Antonio's Bexar Co. Courthouse is one of the best in the state. View it from all sides. The building seems more cohesive now that a mid-Century addition by Gondek has been removed. Here's my story about it: http://tpr.org/post/bexar-courthouse-enters-next-phase-restoration#stream/0. Wander around inside and see the restored two-story courtroom with the gallery and wood floors from wood reclaimed from other local historic buildings. Hallways offer Spanish-tiled walls and other iconic Mexico and Texas touches. Enjoy sushi across the street when you're done.
