Food and drink scene

This is a beautiful spot to indulge in some fabulous local wine and fresh local produce while overlooking the vineyard and picturesque Blackman's Bay. Pop in for a tasting and a glass of wine, a coffee or enjoy a relaxed lunch. I believe they have live music some Friday evenings too so it might be worth checking their website: bangorshed.com.au

Eaglehawk neck is a must go travel destination in Tasmania. Not only is it beautiful but it's also historically significant. At it's narrowest point the neck of land is only 30 meters wide and was once guarded by a dog-line of savage dogs to prevent convicts from escaping from nearby Port Arthur prison settlement. This area boasts some fabulous surf beaches, incredible rock formations like the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman's Arch, Blow Hole and Devils Kitchen. It also has some great coffee spots, local seafood etc. It's a day-trip in itself but is also on the way to the Port Arthur convict site.

MONA -The Museum of Old and New Art is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart. I'm sure you have heard of it. It has been said that MONA is what made Tasmania cool. And I don't think they were talking about our climate. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. MONA houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Controversial at times, it is well worth a visit. The unique subterranean architecture alone is worth seeing. And of course there is plenty of food and wine to be enjoyed there too. I should mention that you can catch the ferry to MONA from the Hobart docks and it's a fun ride.

Catching the Ferry to Mona takes around 25 minutes and totally sets the scene for your experience at the Museum of Old and New Art. Approaching the museum by water is lovely and there are on-board bars, and nibbles. Funky décor and sheep and tigers to sit on. Or you can upgrade to the Posh Pit if you're feeling important.

Sightseeing

'The Mountain' as we locals refer to it, it a gorgeous backdrop to this beautiful part of Tasmania. No matter where you are in and around Hobart you are never far away from our beloved mountain, kunanyi / Mt Wellington. With an abundance of walking trails, mountain bike tracks and lookouts. Rich in wildlife, waterfalls and blanketed in forest, woodlands and alpine environments, it has something for everyone. Whether you want to push yourself on a long uphill hike, photograph some tiny unique fungi or orchids in a mossy gully or simply want to drive to the summit, take a selfie then pop down to Salamanca for a nice coffee, I really do suggest a visit. It's spectacular at all times of year but be warned, the final section of road to the summit is often closed during the winter when its covered in snow.

Richmond is a lovely place to spend the day. Famous for it's convict built bridge (the oldest stone span bridge in Australia) and its elegant Georgian architecture, with beautiful heritage buildings dating back as early as the 1820's. These buildings now house galleries, tea shops, restaurants, wine tastings, antiques and home wares stores, fashion boutiques and museums. For families there are boat rides on the river, ducks to feed and a great little playground. There is also a weekend market.
