The Arch of Hadrian or else Hadrian's Gate is a monumental gateway resembling – in some respects – a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens, Greece, to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It has been proposed that the arch was built to celebrate the adventus (arrival) of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to honor him for his many benefactions to the city, on the occasion of the dedication of the nearby temple complex in 131 or 132 AD.

The Benaki Museum, established and endowed in 1930, houses Greek works of art from the prehistorical to the modern times, an extensive collection of Asian art, hosts periodic exhibitions and maintains a state-of-the-art restoration and conservation workshop. Although the museum initially housed a collection that included Islamic art, Chinese porcelain and exhibits on toys, its 2000 re-opening led to the creation of satellite museums that focused on specific collections, allowing the main museum to focus on Greek culture over the span of the country's history.

Small, private collection museum, houses possibly the best collection of Cycladic art in the world. Unique art of the cycladic islands, 4.000 years old looks “modern” still today. The 1st floor of this exceptional private museum is dedicated to the iconic minimalist marble Cycladic figurines, dating from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. They inspired many 20th-century artists, such as Picasso and Modigliani, with their simplicity and purity of form. Most are surprisingly small, considering their outsize influence, though one is almost human size. The rest of the museum features Greek and Cypriot art dating from 2000 BC to the 4th century AD.

There is no way you can miss Mount Lycabettus. The tallest of Athens' seven hills rises abruptly out of the middle of the city and like the Acropolis, which it towers above, it is visible from almost everywhere. Standing 277 meters above sea level, Lycabettus Hill ( Lykavitos) is the highest point of Athens. The view from Lycabettus Hill is best enjoyed at sunset whilst waiting for the lights of the Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Panathenaic Stadium and Ancient Agora to come on. You will also be reminded that Athens is surrounded by sea with spectacular views across the Aegean. At the top of the hill you will find the Greek whitewashed church of Agios Georgios (St. George) and all are welcome to enter. The viewing platform in front of the church provides sprawling views of Athens, stretching out to the city’s coastline. A cafe is open for breakfast and lunch. Climb the steps or use the lift and have the best view of Attica basin from Saronic gulf to the three mountains ( Parnitha-Hymettus - Penteli ) .

Thiseio or Thissio is the name of a traditional neighbourhood in downtown Athens, Greece, northwest of the Acropolis, 1.5 km southwest of downtown. The area has many cafés and cultural meeting points. Thissio is another favourite venue for spontaneous, open-air concerts and happenings by street bands and this, combined with the fact that the area is considered as one of Athenians’ most beloved destinations within the city limits for a walk or a coffee break, makes the whole area an on-going party to celebrate the simple joys of life. Visit the Herakleidon museum of physics, art and mathematics in Herakleidon Str., or the Islamic Art Benaki Museum or the Odeon Athenaeum, dedicated to the famous opera singer Maria Kallas; all three of them housed in beautiful neoclassical buildings. After nightfall, Thissio will surprise the visitor with a large choice of bars and nightclubs. Worth mentioning is also the old, namesake open-air Cinema, which operates since 1935 every spring and summer and constitutes a unique experience for both Athenians and foreigners. Thiseio is served by the nearby Thiseio metro station.

Until the early 1990s, Psyri, one of the oldest quarters of Athens, had an ill reputation, but it has now become one of the most fashionable and trendy choices in the centre of Athens for accommodation, entertainment and food hospitality. Surely all visitors to Athens take the stroll from Syntagma Square to Kalimarmaro Stadium, but few know that just beyond the stadium lies one of Athens’ most original neighbourhoods. And we hope they never find it, lest Pangrati loses its charm. Will Feuer takes you inside this up-and-coming creative stronghold that’s filled with traditional cafés, creative bars and age-old parks. For those looking to relax among tree-lined cafés, there are temptations on every corner of Pangrati. Head up to Empedokleous Street by the central Varnava Square to enter a portal to the past, Superfly Café. Inside, one will find retro galore, from pinball machines and board games to an antique train circling the bar. Like so many of the Pangrati cafés, Superfly transforms from relaxed café to lively bar as the sun falls out of sight. And just behind Art Zone 42 rests one of Pangrati’s most flourishing areas, Proskopon Square, or literally “Scout’s” Square. There’s no shortage of cafés and tavernas here. Settle in with a book during the day at No Name café and watch the kids play football. At night, grab a drink from any of the surrounding bars and join the rest of Pangrati in the center of the square for a raucous time. Proskopon Square also lays claim to Lexikopoleio, one of the best bookstores in Athens, brimming over with texts of many languages. Of course you’ll find plenty of Greek literature here, but also the latest releases from around the world, along with an abundance of children’s books. Meanwhile, Scout’s Square is also home to one of the primary cultural institutions of Athens: The Magic Flute Restaurant, or Magemenos Avlos. In Varnava Square, the traditional taverna "Mourie"s invites you to choose your meal in the kitchen and has an ever-changing menu of whatever was best that day at the market. The next stop after Varnava is Plastira Square, home to Arbaroriza, serving amazing brunch fare on simple wooden boards, and the slightly chaotic yet trendy Chelsea Bar. Ambitiously named after the notorious New York hotel, the bar, with its bohemian style and hipster crowd, is making its own waves in Pangrati.
