Umtanum Creek Recreation Site

Nice spot to get access to the river, and ponds. Do not attempt to float the river from here downstream, there are many hazards. Better floating is downstream from the house, with the river generally getting quieter and safer the farther down towards Roza you go. Roza is the last takeout before the dam.

Sightseeing
If you take Umptanum Road West/South out of Ellensburg, you can continue up onto the plateau that behind the ridge across from the house. The road turns to gravel, but is usually reasonable except in winter. There is an incredible fairly easy hike to Umptanum Falls.

Floating the Yakima is super fun. This is one company that can help you, but you can also buy floaty toys and do it yourself. The river is slower and safer the farther down you go, and the last take out is at Roza. Figure you will average about 4 miles/hour.
