The church was consecrated on the Christmas Eve in 1887. It was designed with domes to resemble the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and its main building material is baked bricks.
In the main hall, there is a terra-cotta statue of Saint Joseph, measuring more than two meters tall. Hanoi Cathedral also features two high towers, while on the top there is a stone holy cross. In addition, it has a clock on its front, which is connected to the five bells on the two towers.
