One of my favorite places - a lovely old plantation area to drive around, but the best is the 1/2 mile walk to the beach there. It is a surreal scene of tied and deadwood and lots of shells. Lovely at any time of the year. And FREE!

The interpretive center is worth a visit, down off 174. The park itself is on the left when you arrive at the beach front. Long beaches for walking. Check out when and join them for a "turtle walk" to look for new loggerhead turtle nests and, if you're lucky, a glimpse at some newly hatched turtles making their way to the surf.

This store has the essentials needed for groceries, but it gets pretty crowded, especially on Fri-Sun during peak season. And it's a bit pricier, so you're best to stock up on groceries on your way in, either in Ravenel or in Walterboro, depending on your direction in.

The BEST key lime pies on the planet. Fun place about 6 miles inland from the beach - you passed it on your way here on 174. Lots of locally grown produce and products. I also like their home-prepared seafood casseroles.
