If you are looking to catch drinks or dinner while watching the Sun set over the distant horizon (or the fog line), the Vue is as best as it can get when it comes to the location. Located right at the south end of the town of Gualala, the Vue offers spectacular views of the Gualala river estuary as it meets the ocean one one end and the vast Pacific on the other. The restaurant serves California cuisine and the new chef seems to have hit the chord with patrons - ask for the specials of the day. The bar is a great place to rub elbows with the locals and tourists alike. Service is laidback, polite and earnest.

What used to be the historic Stewart's Point Store is now a Bakery, Market and Eatery all rolled into one while still maintaining the essence and charm of what it used to be. You enter the store to the aroma of freshly sticky buns, loaves of bread and croissants. Find that candy you haven't seen since you were a kid. A gift to take home from a local artist. Grab some wine or beer to take to your picnic or sip what we think is the best coffee in the neighborhood. The eatery serves breakfast burritos, sandwiches, soups and salads made from their own bread and meats from their smoker. To top it off, ask for Fossilman's soft serve ice cream for dessert (or just because)!

This is more of a pop-up event space than your standard restaurant or bar. Think of it as visiting a friend of a friend of a friend who is sharing their love for good food, music and wine and you partake by paying your share in it. Events differ from wine tastings, pre-fixe dinners, tapas, at times with live music bands or even dance performance. Beautiful addition to the Gualala/Sea Ranch area to add a touch of class. Space is limited and equipped with some high top tables and couches with a comfy fireplace to sit by.

Drinks & Nightlife

This historic hotel, restaurant, & saloon has been around since 1903 and has recently reopened under a new and caring management. The vibe in the saloon is that of a small town watering hole without being a dive bar. The owners have labored to retain the period aesthetic and a very welcoming atmosphere. The food is basic yet flavorful and reasonably priced. Expect menu items to be sold out as the evening progresses. We see it as a sign of the food prepared as being fresh. Be explicit if you are in a hurry. Locals are generally here for the evening and not in a hurry to go anywhere.

Designed by Robert Muir Graves and completed in 1974, the first nine holes at The Sea Ranch Golf Links jumped onto the list of exciting and scenic golf destinations. In 1995 this “Gem of the Seaside” links was completed at 6649 yards, par 72, when Graves’ second nine was opened. The course’s blend of undulating seaside landscape with Scottish links-style architecture was a first on the West Coast. Planned in the 1970s as a model of environmental sensitivity on Sonoma County's northernmost edge, the garden is maintained by about 100 of 1,300 residents, who share equally in the work and the bounty. Yearly dues of $125 and a willingness to devote three hours a week are all it takes to open the gate to the garden's organically grown abundance. Unlike most community gardens, where members farm individual plots, the Posh Squash, from its first spade turn in 1975, has been one for all and all for one. If you pay a visit, respect the hard work of the gardeners, do not touch or uproot anything planted. And if you are here to drop your bio-waste for compost, strictly adhere to the guidelines.

If you've every driven north of downtown Gualala, you've very likely spotted the metal sculpture of a T-rex and said to yourself, that you will visit it on your way back or some other time. Disregard that thought, and turn right into the establishment. It carries a wide variety of fruit & vegetable starts, native plants, pottery, soils, mulch, fertilizers, tools, sprinkler supplies, seeds, fencing, trellis and such. But most importantly, there are a few more of those sculptures in and around the nursery, a few of them fit into your back seat or trunk.

The unique stone orbs that give the Bowling Ball Beach its name are quite visible during low tide and are known to geologists as Concretions - hard bodies may form in sediment before they become sedimentary rocks. Make sure you check the tide-tables and the information for directions and parking. The beach is not visible from Hwy 1 and the sign is small and easy to miss. The small parking area on the side of Hwy 1 can only be accessed while driving south and it comes up quickly after a climbing left turn. If you hesitate to pull over you will have to drive some distance to find an area to turn around.

From 1906 to 1967, everything from cars to batteries to bottles, cans and appliances were unceremoniously pushed over the cliffs into the ocean — a common practice of seaside cities for centuries. Mother Nature responded to this abuse with a nice surprise in the form of smooth, colored sea glass treasure in a rainbow of colors. While a fair distance away from the house, a visit to Glass beach makes for day long adventure. Search for rare ruby reds (from pre-1967 auto tail lights) or sapphire gems from apothecary bottles. Snap a photo, but leave the glass behind for others to discover. Check for directions and parking instructions

Kruse Rhododendron State Natural Reserve is located adjacent to Salt Point State Park. Edward P. Kruse donated the land to the people of California in 1933 as a living memorial to his father, a founder of San Francisco's German Bank. The land was part of a large ranch established in 1880, on which the Kruse family raised sheep and carried on logging and tanbark harvesting operations. Today, this pristine reserve contains second-growth redwood, Douglas-fir, grand firs, tanoaks, and a plethora of rhododendrons. Each May these spectacular flowers burst into bloom, coloring the deep green of the forest with brilliant pink blossoms.
