Coffee Shop

Savannah has a TON of coffee shops...I've probably hung out, or worked in most of them. Here are a few that I love to frequent, depending on what I need to get done!
This is a great late night coffee shop that serves food, has free wifi, and occasionally some live music or spoken word. This is a must for when you need a little distraction while working!

Probably the coffee shop in Savannah that has the most character. Art on the walls, mismatched chairs, dudes at the window playing speed chess, and ...(wait for it...) a Fireplace!!! I love this shop for a fun date night, hangout with friends, a solo outing with a great book, or *very* light computer work. I've had issues with their wifi in the past, but try for yourself. Art students are regularly working on school projects there at one of their tables, so that's an option too. Fun fact - it's across the street from the bus bench scenes that were in the movie, "Forrest Gump".

This is the closest free standing Starbucks to my place...4 minutes away - including parking! In my opinion, it's also the nicest in Savannah - but it does stay pretty busy! Be forewarned! I've been known to work from here as well when I want to get out of the house, but I also want to stay local.

This is the beatnik / hippie dippy / crunchy granola coffee shop. And it's right across from Forsyth which makes grabbing a bite to enjoy in the park very easy to do. But as tempting as the park may be, this place and its left of center vibe may compete with the great outdoors. It's the kind of spot that you can overhear conversations about global warming, composting, foreign film screenings, quantum physics, and the meaning of life while enjoying your fair-trade coffee and organic scone or tempeh sandwich. It's also the only indy coffee shop that is open late on a Sunday night (9pm). Which is actually a pretty important thing when you are working on a project or cramming for finals or writing the next great American novel, or whatever! Indy films, spoken word sets, and local bands are a thing there about 3 nights a week, so entertainment is often an option. PS - their kitchen is legit. And they sell wine and beer which is nice. Check out the Brunch section for some of my favorite nosh's. There, you'll find my love letter to the best breakfast sandwich in Savannah, which comes from their kitchen.

Food scene

I wouldn't even try to make an exhaustive list of all the amazing places to eat in Savannah...for such a small town, the restaurant scene is LIT! So much deliciousness... so little time. These are a few of my MANY faves. Tip #1 - There is some sort of restaurant week or food festival every 3 months in Savannah. Find out when the next one is, and GO. Tip #2 - Yelp, Google Maps, and whatever restaurant reservations app you're using will have many more options/ideas to suggest. Honestly, I'm not even scratching the surface of what the Savannah Food Scene has to offer...
My British educated mom and our Caribbean roots make Afternoon Tea a must do every now and again. This is my go to spot! They also have the sort of menu that makes you wish you could order - and eat - 3 meals. Truly, a gem in downtown Savannah - and lots of places to walk to after you eat.

I'm occasionally low / no meat, and this is the *ONLY* 100% certified Vegan kitchen and restaurant in Savannah proper. *EVERYTHING* is insanely delicious, and I've even taken my carnivore buddies, and they've found something to enjoy. Just Go. Fun Fact - the same folks that own Foxy Loxy, Henny Penny, and the Coffee Fox own this place! This is a place the average Savannah Visitor will never go to. It's in midtown (~10 minutes from my place), and it's a neighborhood restaurant / bar. Savannah lacks good late nite food options, and this place is one of the FEW places with a kitchen that closes at midnight most nights. And the food? AWESOME!!! So good, great service, and some of the absolute BEST bartenders in all of Savannah! Go there. Thank me later!

In 6 minutes or LESS from my place, you will find at least 10 fast food spots. BUT - The only fast food place you'll find in my guidebook is Chick Fil A. They use real ingredients, they fry in Peanut Oil (not lard, or some hydrogenated goo), their Iced Coffee is yummy, Yummy salads, their lemonade is second only to my homemade recipe, they have free wifi, and their service is top notch. Always. There's a reason why, even though they're only open 6 days a week, they're the #3 Fast Food Chain in America. Go there. #youarewelcome

Tybee Bakery and Cafe Miss Korea are probably in the top 10 of my favorite places in Savannah! Miss Korea goes by reservation only, rarely serves more than 6 guests at a time, and cooks what she wants for you. Yes you read that correctly. No menu. You tell her what you *Do Not Eat*, and she shops for you, and prepares a custom meal unique to you. I'm sure you could make requests, but what's the fun in that? :) Her food is delicious, and you feel like a privileged guest to eat in the cafe. TIP - Do NOT skip Dessert!!! I talk about her partner, Simon, the owner and head Baker of the Tybee Bakery and his skillful creations in the just Desserts section. These two are a knockout culinary duo! Just Go.

This is a favorite spot for lunch or a simple, fresh, healthy delicious dinner that works well for meat lovers AND Vegans...they use natural, high quality ingredients, that are fresh and delicious every time! Tip - they make a Turkey Chilli that I have craved so badly at times I've gone there *Just* for that! I will gladly drive by easily 4-6 different Indian restaurants in Savannah and Pooler to get to this place. And when you go...you understand. I'm picky about my Indian. I fell in love with the cuisine while in college in New York. The spices and the Eastern masala, so distinctly different than the West Indian curries that I grew up with in Jamaica and South Florida. Ever since New York, I try to find the best Indian places in every city I visit. It took me trying 3 other places before finding this one. So glad I kept looking. Warning- it isn't in Savannah proper. Its about 30 minutes away in a suburb called Richmond Hill. And while it's got a cute decor, it's not high end/formal. But there's a team of geniuses in the kitchen putting out dishes that will make your tastebuds dance. Tip - they've got a lunch buffet Friday - Sunday. If you have time, you NEED to go.

Every location independent entrepreneur and remote worker knows they need to figure out a 'home base' address for all of your mail, your packages, and the like. It's one of the first things I look for in every new city I move to. This is my mailbox place. I *LOVE* these guys! The Kelly's (Mr. Sheldon, and his son, Khalief) take good care of me and my packages, especially when I'm on the road. Their prices are reasonable, and they also offer copy print services, and free wifi if you need to knock out some work or a few emails while shipping of your UPS/FEDEX package. Bonus - there's a little cafe *in the building*. 100 copies, AND an iced latte? Winning!

Of the 2 major parks in Savannah proper, this on has the best walking / jogging track, IMO. 1 1/2 miles around, soft to the feet, and relatively even walking surface. Also, during summer months its home to a local baseball team, the Savannah Bananas! The down side? Not as much cutesy things to do within walking distance immediately around the park, and if you want food, you better bring it with you, or plan to walk to Krystals burger :-/

When I want to walk an area that vibrant with restaurants, games, and people watching, this is the spot!
