Buttermilk Falls is one of the many gorges that are the main attraction of Ithaca. The gorges, natural waterfalls, are great for hiking, natural beauty, and in some cases swimming. Buttermilk is close to the house and allows guests to swim, so it is a good gorge to visit.

Taughannock Falls is the most iconic gorge in Ithaca. Though it is a bit further of a drive than Buttermilk and there is no swimming, Taughannock is massive and beautiful. It is taller than Niagara Falls and some of the hiking trails go up over the gorge so you have a view of the waterfall from above.

You can shop for some fresh groceries, flowers, art/souvenirs, kitchenware, and more, then order some brunch and retire to the lake front to relax in the sun.
