Living History of Steam Trains
A real snapshot of a steam railway station, complete with working steam trains, period suited volunteer staff, and all next to one of Somerset's award winning breweries.
The West Somerset Railway is a volunteer run steam railway just a 20 min walk from the house, via a picturesque footpath through the fields, (wellies would be advised if it's been railing!) Bishops Lydeard Station has been recreated as a living history of the railway, with several themed weekends with special guest steam trains taking centre stage.
The railway is working too, so you can buy tickets to take you by steamtrain from Bishops Lydeard to the seaside at Minehead. It's a fantastice day out for young or old alike.

One of Somerset's finest microbreweries is just a 15 min walk (or up to half a day's stagger) away... Serving multi-award winning, hand-crafted ales from its tap room, Quantock Brewery is one of Taunton's best kept secrets. Look them up online or via Facebook.
Quantock Brewery is just next door to the West Somerset Railway (WSR), and worth a visit if you like superb craft ales (or know someone special who does!) The friendly staff serve the beer that they make and are always happy to give you a taste and tell you all about it!!

Perhaps a local, country or national cricket game - the County Ground has hosted them all and is nesteld in the heart of Taunton City Centre with its myriad of pubs, shops and restaurants for a complete day out and perhaps a night to remember too! Or see a live band there!
