Micòl's Vienna Guide

Some of our favourite places in the city

I'm a Vienna-bre(a)d through and through. Something that I've seen emerge over the last couple of years, is the amazing food scene. There's something for everyone here: typically Viennese, vegan, gluten-free, street-food style, any type of ethnicity (and still authentic)... But it can also be quite overwhelming - and often times insanely expensive. That's not fun! So, here are some of my recommendations. And if you're in the mood for some good Shakshuka and Hummus, you've come to the right Airbnb!
If you've watched the "Before Sunrise" trilogy (or at least the first film), you might remember the café where Céline and Jesse pretend to have a phone call with their respective friends... Well, this is the café! One of the waitresses will point you to the exact booth they were sitting in, if you ask nicely. I believe it's the fourth one :) During summer, you can also sit outside. The food is typically Viennese, a little on the heavier side, but they do include Vegetarian dishes. The "Sperl Risotto" is uh-mazing.

Pizza Mari is so close, I still cry about it sometimes. It's a female-run establishment with (in my humble and honest opinion) the best pizza in town. Nuff said.

Ramasuri is also very close to our place, and more on the "edgy" side. You will definitely need reservations, but it's so worth it! They change the menu through the seasons, which breaks my heart because they had this crazy Vegan Carbonara dish, but the food is ten-ten would recommend. And the location is great, too. The art inside is just stunning, and it feels like a little bit of Parisian bistro. Did I mention that everything is produced locally?

This bar... If you're looking for an insane experience, this is the place to go. And we wouldn't mind joining you! The Sign has been awarded with "Best Bar of Austria" two years in a row, and we know why. Every drink is an experience, with so much love attention to detail, and amazing taste. The menu is quite intricate, so perhaps you could tell them about your preferences. If you're lucky, Kan himself will mix you something amazing! The prices are more on the high-end side, but that depens on what you consider high-end. I'd say that the average drink costs about 12€. But if you have a free night and feel funny, I highly encourage you to go.

If you're lucky, and they're playing some good movies, go. Oh my God, just go. The Gartenbaukino is one of the oldest movie theatres in the city, located on the Ring, and has the most beautiful interior. It's still very old school, with like, two to three films a day, but totally worth it!

The Naschmarkt is the biggest market in Vienna. There's lots of street food, tons of options, and when you think you've seen everything... there's probably more. The architecture around it is amazing, too, so make sure to look around you :)

Something I'll always recommend to everyone, is to just take a walk down the Danube. There's beautiful wall art, and lots of little bars and cafés that open in the evening. Make sure you carry cash with you, us Austrians are a little slow with Technology.

Thrift stores are finally manifesting themselves around here, and the Humana shop on Lerchenfelder Straße is perfect if you're interested in discovering a little bit more of the 7th district. You can cycle a lot around here, and there's just so much to see! It's also 7 minutes away from "Wirr", which is the next spot on my list.

This place is super cosy, and the breakfast makes your belly dream. Crazy, right? I would make reservations on Sundays/Saturdays, but apart from that, it's always "normal" busy. They also have free WIFI aaaaall day long. And the best French chocolate cake!

For the vegan burger lovers among you guys! I'm honestly not the biggest fan, as the soy stuff is not my favourite thing to eat... But the nuggets and fries are good! And hey, all of the vegans I know LOVE the place! But if you're ever in Paris, go to HANK Burgers. That's some really good stuff.

They got some good-good. I had a few issues with gluten in the past, so I only went there to have some buckwheat crust pizza. I know that they also offer cashew cheese, so if you're interested in dabbling into that territory, it's the way to go! The location might be a little off-putting at first, but Alsergrund is a beautiful district, and only five minutes away by foot from The Sign!!

I've tried many Pho places throughout the city, and I allow myself to say that this one was the best. The place is quite small, but super authentic (don't you hate it when people say that), and the aromas make your tastebuds do a happy dance. Another plus is that it's very affordable, so if you're feeling like Pho, this is the place to go.

For the full Vienna experience - rude waiters but oddly good service, enormous Schnitzel and GREAT wine, and even a smoker's lounge even though no one does that anymore - go to the Schöne Perle. The place is totally worth it, even if it's just for what I like to call "date-gazing". The weirdest shit happens in that establishment.

If you're looking for some good Israeli food, this is, right after my place, the best place in my opinion. The prices are very okay, the food actually tastes good, and the establishment is really cute!
