Beside this mosaic, Santa Pudenzia has much to offer in decoration and atmosphere. A curious fact is, that the right side of the church started as a Roman bath house in the 2nd century. You can still spot the layout of the stalls. Outside, the history of the church is made clear, because the building is now far under street level, the small piazza can be reached by a staircase. Interesting is the bell tower in north Italian style; this bell tower was added much later, in the 13th century.
