My Favourite Restaurants
There are some places that really stand out for me for good food and a good ambience. I'd love to share them with you.
The Bistro is set in a beautiful garden and offers a vibrant atmosphere both indoors and outdoors, in the shade of the deck or on the terrace. It's probably more suited to adults as there isn't much to entertain the kiddies. I love sitting on the deck overlooking the garden, enjoying a long, lazy lunch.

And don't fear, in addition to their world class tapas they continue to serve delicious pizzas and the biggest selection of European cheeses in the South West! Personally this is one of my favourites.

Yarri Restaurant + Bar is one of the region's newest, with Aaron Carr as chef and operator after 21 years at the helm of the kitchen at Vasse Felix's restaurant. The cuisine honours nature, the season, and the south west. Almost all dishes are 'touched by fire' in a custom wood-burning stove to enhance the ingredients natural characteristics. From full a la carte through to the ultimate degustation or a quick drink and bite to eat at the bar.

Kid-friendly beaches
For parents with young children it's always good to know the beaches that are close (so that the kids aren't unsettled in the car) that have calm waters, safe for them to play and swim in!
The pristine Dunsborough foreshore is an idyllic place for a beach day, with extremely calm waters protected by sand banks close to the shore. Stand up paddle boarding is perfect for these sheltered waters and equipment is available to hire during the warmer months.

Dunsborough Bike Hire
10 Clark StThe pristine Dunsborough foreshore is an idyllic place for a beach day, with extremely calm waters protected by sand banks close to the shore. Stand up paddle boarding is perfect for these sheltered waters and equipment is available to hire during the warmer months.
A favourite swimming spot for families with young children is near the Old Dunsborough Boat Ramp. This calm swimming spot is ideal for kids and is protected by a shark net in summer.
Refurbished in 2014, the Blackhurst Park playground has nature-based play equipment that will keep children entertained. Toilets, showers, barbecues and picnic tables are located nearby. The boat ramp is 200m away, and fishing from the rocks near the boat launch is very popular.

Boat Ramp
A favourite swimming spot for families with young children is near the Old Dunsborough Boat Ramp. This calm swimming spot is ideal for kids and is protected by a shark net in summer.
Refurbished in 2014, the Blackhurst Park playground has nature-based play equipment that will keep children entertained. Toilets, showers, barbecues and picnic tables are located nearby. The boat ramp is 200m away, and fishing from the rocks near the boat launch is very popular.
Meelup beach is protected by Geographe Bay and its serene waters attracts many visitors, especially those who prefer swimming in calmer waters. The beach provides the perfect setting for a family picnic with plenty of shade in the form of beautiful native trees. During summer you can hire standup paddle boards and kayaks on the beach, which makes for a great way to spend an hour or two. Facilities include excellent public change rooms, toilets and showers.

Meelup Beach
Meelup beach is protected by Geographe Bay and its serene waters attracts many visitors, especially those who prefer swimming in calmer waters. The beach provides the perfect setting for a family picnic with plenty of shade in the form of beautiful native trees. During summer you can hire standup paddle boards and kayaks on the beach, which makes for a great way to spend an hour or two. Facilities include excellent public change rooms, toilets and showers.
Beaches for the surfers
Seeing as the South West is renowned for its surf beaches I thought I would let you in on a couple!
Yallingup has bred some of the world’s greatest surfers and you’ll soon see why with a visit to Yallingup Beach. It's an awesome place to watch the surf and the surfers. The tranquil crystal clear lagoon at Yallingup Beach is ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

The waves are great, easily accessible and reliable. It also has top notch facilities for both surfers and spectators.

The South West has so many spots and attractions worth visiting. Let's have a look at a few :-)
Busselton Jetty offers an unprescedented opportunity to walk almost two kilometers out into Geographe Bay. The Busselton Jetty also has an underwater observatory which was built to take you beneath the waves of Geographe Bay. Local fishermen and women are fishing the jetty all throughout the day.
Walking the Jetty takes approximately 25 minutes, each way. Experience a fun way of making the journey...by train. Children and adults love the sight of the small red train, perfectly sized to take passengers back and forth the length of the pier

Busselton Jetty
17 Queen StBusselton Jetty offers an unprescedented opportunity to walk almost two kilometers out into Geographe Bay. Great spot to see a long way on coast both north and south. Even if you're not in interested in the geology of the rocks, you can clamour around on them to get a better view or just stay on the viewing bridges.
Driving down to the area is quite stunning, and when you walk out across the bridge you will hopefully experience the enormous strength of the waves as they surge through the canal or over the top of the rocks. A large car park is available and a good view can be seen without walking far.

Canal Rocks Bridge
Canal Rocks RoadGreat spot to see a long way on coast both north and south. Even if you're not in interested in the geology of the rocks, you can clamour around on them to get a better view or just stay on the viewing bridges.
Driving down to the area is quite stunning, and when you walk out across the bridge you will hopefully experience the enormous strength of the waves as they surge through the canal or over the top of the rocks. A large car park is available and a good view can be seen without walking far.
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse sits on the southern tip of Cape Leeuwin in the farthest corner of the south west of Western Australia. The Lighthouse remains working to this day, regularly guiding ships away from danger at this cape.
Recently, National Geographic named the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse as one of the top 3 best ocean views in the world. So just for the view, it is definitely worth a visit!

Expanses of grass and open spaces give the kids the chance to run and play, with plenty of seats and shady trees where the adults can sit and relax. You can even challenge the gang to play 18 holes of mini golf.

Well if you're visiting the world-renowned Margaret River Region, you're going to want to know what wineries are close by and worth a visit. So here goes!
The Amelia Park cellar door is one of the best in the Margaret River area with beautiful architecture and a stunning outlook over the vineyards. The wines are fabulous and well priced. You should give serious consideration to sharing a cheeseboard while enjoying a wine tasting. And if you feel like something a little more substantial they have a beautifully designed and decorated restaurant with amazing food, overlooking the outstanding views.

A family owned and run vineyard where they process their grapes in their own state-of-the-art winery. The entire winemaking process, from growing, picking and crushing the grapes, to bottling the wine is carried out on the premises. Everything is done with a touch of European tradition and style. Lovely people too!

It’s pretty much a hands on operation – the vines are hand-pruned and hand-picked, and the wine hand-made. They process in small batches which are treated separately, evaluated and blended in the barrel hall – a truly boutique operation. The tasting is a friendly affair and the wines are all top quality. The gardens are beautiful too!
