Artesia isn't exactly the culinary capital of the world, but there are a few good places worth mentioning.
Great mexican food and incredible steaks! Their Carne Asada is the best I've ever had and you can call in orders To Go! They have a lunch buffet Monday-Friday and Sunday--they are closed on Saturdays.

This is well worth the one hour and fifteen minute drive! High ancient sea ledges, deep rocky canyons, flowering cactus, and desert wildlife—treasures above the ground in the Chihuahuan Desert. Hidden beneath the surface are more than 119 caves—formed when sulfuric acid dissolved limestone leaving behind caverns of all sizes.

Ocotillo Hills Nature Trail is a 2.2-mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Carlsbad. It features beautiful wild flowers and with an elevation gain of just 368 feet, this trail is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips and bird watching and is best used from April through October.
