Originally it was a pajiza construction from the beginning of the XVII century, established in the vicinity of the Cali River and dedicated to Our Lady of Solitude and the Lord of the Caña.
This ancient hermitage was a construction without much architectural value known only through a painting by Farfán. It was a very simple construction, as are most of the old constructions in the Valle del Cauca. In the earthquake in 1787, the simple church was demolished and only the image of the Lord of the Reed was preserved.
