The Gateway Arch is the iconic symbol of the City of St. Louis and the metaphoric "Gateway to the West". The Gateway Arch is a national monument that resides in the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial national park complex. The grounds commemorate the Louisiana Purchase and the pioneering spirit of the Westward expansion of the United States. They recently opened up the grounds to the public though construction still persists. There is a museum below the Arch which give the history of Westward expansion and the engineering feet of erecting the monument as well as tram rides to the top of the arch. More info can be found on the website: http://www.gatewayarch.com

Shaw Botanical garden is a short drive or long bike ride from the apartment. Though not free except on certain days and times it is definitely worth the price of admission. The grounds are splendidly arranged to showcase fountains, sculptures as well as various arrangements of flora both common and exotic. The park offers a free concert series throughout the summer where it's great to sit back on a blanket and enjoy the atmosphere in a wonderful venue. Make sure to bring a picnic basket and some libations with you. For more information visit their website: http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/

Entertainment & Activities

What can I say... it's the home of the 11 time World Championship St. Louis Cardinals franchise. Pro tip: Go to the box office with a any state provided ID at least 2 hours before the night/day of a game and ask for "First Pitch Tickets". Try to get them early because they only sell around 300 of them. You will receive a voucher for two tickets for only $11.20. Warning: depending on seat availability or the popularity of the game you may only get standing room only tickets but again you get 2 people into the game for $11.20. There are stipulations on the voucher so read it carefully (like the voucher purchaser must be present at game time with their state ID). Enjoy the game!

This eclectic destination is a bit an amusement park, art installation, playground, museum, and maze all rolled into one venue. Fun for kids and adults alike you can't go wrong by spending an afternoon of day at the City Museum. If you have kids it's a good way to drain their energy and knock them out for the rest of the day. Pro tip: I'm not germ phobic and I bring hand sanitizer because there is a lot of hand interaction with objects in the facility. They have food and beverages there but I think you can bring food in with you. More info can be found here: http://www.citymuseum.org/
