Food Scene

Amazing indoor/outdoor eatery. Excellent food, great healthy options, and casual atmosphere. I LOVE the chopped salad + chicken. Relatively large portions, so you could easily save some to eat later. Alcove is on Hillhurst Avenue, which is a mainstay of Los Feliz, featuring a bunch of other great restaurants and shops. Great place to have lunch, then walk around. Also easy walkable access to Griffith Park for hiking, exploring, etc.

Awesome coffee shop right in the heart of Sunset Junction, a beautiful 10-minute walk from your front door. Definitely the core of the scene at Sunset Junction. Great place to work with a decent amount of outdoor seating and indoor bar seating. Surrounded by other great places, including Cafe Stella, a cheese shop, flower shop, and tons of other cool places that are just steps away. Sunset BLVD is a great street to walk around on.

The first Alfred in West Hollywood is an iconic spot for bloggers, influencers (insert other obnoxious buzzwords). The newer one on Sunset Boulevard, roughly a 15-minute walk from your front door, is a bit more low-key, but still features their great coffee, juice shots, and food items. No wi-fi, so there are fewer people working and meeting there. Limited seating, but there's usually a spot or two open, since there aren't people parked there using wi-fi. Great spot to read or meet with people.

Super cool restaurant with funky decor. Due to it's huge popularity and relatively small footprint, there can be a long wait for a table. To avoid a wait, it's best to go earlier, around 5-5:30pm. Their spin on Thai Food is unique and memorable. Super tasty and fun vibes. Haven't had a bad dish there! In fact, the food is so intriguing and delicious across-the-board that I usually end up trying something new each time I go. Reasonable price point, as well.

Great for juice, smoothies, healthy snacks, vitality shots, etc. Local shop. Bit slow, but great to pop into for a vitalizing, refreshing, and healthy snack or beverage. I almost always get the Face Melter shot - packs a serious punch, gets your gears turning, and supposedly boosts your immunity!

Great for a reasonably-priced brunch with adorable and well-executed French themes. Highly recommend the Soft Scramble & Prosciutto or the Coddled Egg Basket (special item with limited availability). For dinner, it turns into an upscale French restaurant, great for a date, delicious outing, or even a low-key meeting. The food is fantastic and the location is right in the heart of Sunset Junction (steps from Intelligentsia Coffee - they share the same building/red architecture). It's a bit tucked away with limited street visibility, so keep your eyes peeled for the front door. I promise it's there! And it's worth the hunt :)

Awesome outdoor seating on an expansive back patio, replete with large integrated trees and other nature. The whole ambiance and decor of the place are super cool and worth a visit. I've been there several times and the food ranges from decent to excellent, depending on the dish. The best thing I've had there is a special chicken-for-two that's served with scrumptious seasoning and Hen of the Woods mushrooms. Oysters are good, too. Great place to bring a friend or date if decor and ambiance are important. They also have a good wine list. Great location. Bit hard to find from the street, as the front door is quite discrete. Parking lot attached. Also walking distance from your front door.

One of my favorite casual Italian eateries in Silver Lake. The food is excellent and the decor is minimal. Non-pretentious, straight-forward. Great indoor/outdoor feel.

Awesome coffee shop and eatery. Food's a bit expensive, but it's a fantastic place to sit and work or people-watch. Known for frequent celebrity sitings and a lively atmosphere, without being too jarring or distracting. Great location near the Silverlake Reservoir.

Drinks & Nightlife

Awesome decor. Great for lunch or dinner. Turns into a bar at night. Cool place to grab a drink. Great beer, wine, and cocktails. Interesting fact - The Black Cat is steeped in LGBTQ+ history. It was a spot where cultural change-agents met and plotted societal revolution, pre-dating the more widely-cited historic Stonewall meetings and Riot. While it still welcomes and caters to the LGBTQ+ community, it's identity and customer base is broader now than it was back in time.

One of the coolest places from a decor standpoint. Awesome outdoor area. On several nights that I've been there, the DJ has been SUPERLATIVE! Great dance music, often throwing back to nostalgic remixes of 90s/2000s boy bands, girl groups, etc. More about the experience than the cocktails, though the drinks are usually pretty good, too. Very discrete street presence, with almost no marking. Should be easy enough finding it if you just follow the map on a mobile phone. Bit of a longer walk from your front door (probably 20-25 minutes), though certainly doable. Located just past Trader Joe's along Hyperion Avenue.

Shopping

Super-cool and widely renowned store known in the hippest of cultural circles. Not much to say about it except that it's worth checking out! They having clothing, decorative items, and other awesome merchandise that I'm not sure I can even categorize. Roughly a 5-minute drive, Crux sits on the corner of a street in the heart of Attwater Village, another great place to walk around, featuring tons of shops, restaurants, and bars. Attwater features some truly funky architecture and colors.

Specialized store featuring spirits and awesome vintage glasses and barware. For anyone remotely interested in bars, cocktails, and trinkets/glasses for service at home, it's definitely worth a visit. Next to a ton of other great shops along Sunset Boulevard.

Essentials

It's Trader Joe's... 'nuff said! All your essentials at a great price. Only thing I'd caution is going there during peak hours (4-7pm). There's a fairly large parking lot, but it gets somewhat gridlocked with people coming in and out during those times. Going any time other than that, you should be fine. Early/mid-day or within an hour or two of closing are the best times. Note: If you're from New York City, as I am, you'll be overjoyed to find out that you're not treated like cattle at all Trader Joe's! Just in NYC. The experience of a Los Angeles Trader Joe's will both surprise and delight :)

Solid grocery store. Many more products than Trader Joe's. More expensive, but if Trader Joe's doesn't have it, Gelsons probably will. You can also get some meds, toiletries, and other items there. Good one-stop-shop for most things you need for the kitchen and bathroom. They also have pretty good prepared food - salads, rotisserie chickens, veggie sides, etc. Good sized parking lot, not usually an issue finding a space. Right across the street from Trader Joe's. Oh, and they have Halo Top ice cream. #Bless

Entertainment & Activities

Super hip and historic movie theater for the area. Only one screen, so they show one film at a time - usually changes every week or two.

Sightseeing

Famous Los Angeles spot near the Hollywood sign, featured in movies such as La La Land. The Observatory is really cool, though what I like even better is the hiking around it. Griffith Park is one of the best hiking spots in Los Angeles, and it's only an 8-minute drive from your front door. For the best hikes, I recommend entering at the Vermont Canyon Tennis Courts, which you can find easily on Google Maps. You walk up through the tennis courts and follow a trail. You get a breathtaking view of the city and the back of the Griffith Observatory. Excellent for pictures, leg/butt building, meditation, etc. I think the summit for that hike is Dante's Peak. Not easy, but not overly challenging.

If you're a tennis fan, these courts are AWESOME! If you go during the day (between 10-4), they are free and usually available. The surroundings are breath-taking. It's also the best entrance on Griffith for hiking that's EXCELLENT and no overrun with tourists. Only ~8-minutes from your front door. Walk up through the tennis courts and follow a trail.
