One of the best, traditional, local tapas places I've been to since living here. It's a bit off the beaten track, away from the historic centre but still only a bus ride away. If you have some extra time and want a truly local experience, this is the place to head for.

Run by an Italian and a Costa Rican, this little bar has some more unusual things on the menu and is excellent if you're looking for vegetarian dishes.

A truly typical, local tapas bar in the heart of the old town. Somewhere that few tourists would discover on their own, it's just the place if you want to soak up local flavour. Be prepared to stand to eat.

Sightseeing

Largest gothic church in the world. The bottom part of the iconic tower, the "Giralda" is the original minaret from the mosque that stood on the site from the 12 century. Tip to avoid queues - the ticket for the Cathedral gains you entry into another church, the Iglesia del Salvador located only about 5 minutes away in Plaza del Salvador. If you buy your ticket in the Iglesia del Salvador, the queues are much, much shorter and you can then visit the cathedral at whatever time later that day, using the same ticket.

A traditional, tree-lined promenade constructed in the 16th century, this is now "THE" place to hang out day or night for people of all ages. Around 5 minutes walk from the flat, it is surrounded by tapas bars, restaurants and even a couple of night-clubs.

This is claimed to be the "largest wooden structure in the world". For only 3 euros, you can take a lift to the mirador at the top to get the most fantastic panoramic view of the entire city. Best visited just before sunset.

A stunning palace originally developed by Moorish Muslim kings and renowned as one of the most beautiful in Spain. If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you will be interested to know that parts of it are filmed inside the palace and the gardens. My strong recommendation is that you book tickets online to avoid incredibly long queues, which can only be done the day before or earlier. Website: http://www.alcazarsevilla.org/.

If you enjoy walking, this promenade along Seville´s Guadalquivir is perfect. You can walk several kilometres from the Alamillo park in the north, all the way down to the Maria Luisa park in the south and beyond, without ever having to walk on a road with cars. This is my absolute favourite place to walk in Seville.

An extraordinary 32 metre high bronze sculpture, this represents Christopher Colombus and his journey to the Americas. Set in the middle of the San Jeronimo park, this is a lovely place to visit if you're looking for somewhere quieter and greener than the centre of Seville. It can be reached via the promenade along the river if you're up for a good walk (around 10km round trip) or by bus.
