Nature and Ocean Access
Ocean The Sonoma Coast and parts of Marin and Mendocino coasts are a reasonable drive. If you head to Jenner (see Paddling), you can follow the coast north and get to the new Jenner Healdlands Preserve for beautiful views and an amazing walk. Meander a few hours further north and you’ll hit Timber Cove, Elk, then the cutie town on Mendocino. (It only takes 2 hours to come back inland, fyi.) Drive south from Jenner and visit the beach or or hike above spectacular Goat Rock. Keep going south 13 miles to Bodega Bay, and drive up the the Bodega Headlands for a windy walk and whale watching some months of the year. Clam chowder at the chowder shack. Walk on calmer 1.5 mile Doran beach (Sonoma Co. Parks—entry $7/car). Head back by way of Wildflower Bakery for a fougasse (bread) or scone.
Gorgeous view await at this Army Corps of Engineers park. Great for birding, I've seen Osprey in action there. Signs of Wild pigs & mountain lions are sometimes found. Great trails and views!

The Fish hatchery is a fun spot to visit when the trout and salmon are jumping the levels. Lots of baby fish to see, and a nice small museum. Walk the grounds and check out the dam!
