Powis Castle is an amazing visit of a luxurious castle and collection of antiques with wonderful gardens and arboretum. Deer in the park and walking access from Welshpool. Run by the National Trust with cafe.

Britains longest drop waterfall with a walk to the top and more if you want to go over the Berwyn mountains.
If we've had a lot of rain the waterfall is astounding and some years it can ice up for climbing! Great for all year visits

Fairbourne about an hour away has a great long beach with a small train running along the coast for fun rides and if you want to go over to Barmouth there's the bridge to cycle over or a little ferry. Great journey over the Snowdonia mountains with the Cross Foxes Pub for food on the way home.

Welshpool has the biggest sheep market in Europe with the main sales on a Monday. If you've never been to a livestock market it's a fantastic opportunity to show the kids and yourselves how it all works. Keep your hands low though you don't want to go home with a flock of sheep!
