“Ganga Talao (pronounced Gaan-gaa Taa-laa-o) is a place of worship for the hindus. It is far from any inhabited areas and a very peaceful/quiet location. It is worth a stop when visiting the south/south-west region of Mauritius. Entry is free, with lots of parking space. Ganga Talao is a hindi word meaning lake of the Ganges (a reference to the Ganges river in India). If you are in Mauritius during the festival of Maha Shivratri (usually in February or March), you may even join in the hundreds of thousand of mauritians who walk and/or drive from all over Mauritius to go and pray at that sacred lake. It is a very colourful festival. Note: A highly visited place, do be mindful that it's a place of worship and thus to be respectful of the traditions and decorum of the place. E.g. Do not enter the temples with shoes; Do not consume any non-vegetarian food or alcohol there; Dress appropriately (for e.g. the locals would appreciate if a woman wearing a small short for example would cover up when visiting that place).”

“Highly popular for its rectangular flank rocks, the fall is one of the most popular tourist attractions and the widest waterfall in Mauritius. The waterfall is located on the Savanne River at an elevation of 152 meters above sea level,[2] approximately 2.5 km from Souillac (the capital of the Savanne district), and it tumbles from a height of about 10 m”

“Gris-Gris, a light wind sweeps your hair and this immaculate view stuns you – you are facing this sea – so blue – which looks like a beautiful fresco. But where did this region get its name from? No need to let your imagination wander. A placard tells more about this place at the entrance of the spot. It is said that between the barrier reef and the cliffs there is a rock that resembles a nun praying. For those who have a fertile imagination, they can also see in gri-gris the silhouette of a witch doing witchery. Gris-Gris was also the name of Abbee de la Caille’s dog, who came to the Isle of France in 1753. The poet Jean Toulet made it an ode by describing Gris-Gris as a “Sweet beach where my soul was born, Savanne in flowers that the ocean soaked in tears and sun of flame.” Visiting the beach in September 1886, the poet Paul Jean Toulet found the place full of “terror and fatalism not without sweetness. ” Not far from the Gris-Gris beach, you can see Chez Rosy’s restaurant, held by Rosy Gounden. You cannot leave Gris-Gris without visiting its cliff, known as La Roche qui Pleure. It got its name from the permanent runoff of sea water and the rumbling of waves against the rock. Gris-Gris has a lot of anecdotes around it. It is said that La Roche qui Pleure creates this illusion of tears flowing from the cliffs when the waves retreat there and that strangely, the features of the poet Robert Edward Hart appear as sculpted in the rocks by erosion. The absence of a coral barrier, the basaltic rocks and the powerful action of the waves have shaped amazing shapes that you will not find anywhere else.”

“To taste real home cooking, stop at this simple family-run table d’hote, with orange splatter paint walls and photographs of visits from famous reggae singers. Front of house is the charming Rico I’Intelligent, the village mayor, known locally as the President. His wife cooks up old family recipes in the kitchen, while his sister in law waits the tables. The set menu includes chicken, fish (occasionally wild boar), with five vegetables and rice, and desert. The value is unbeatable, because he doesn’t pay commission to taxi drivers (usually added to your bill).”
