“Stradbroke Ferries or water taxis connect you from Cleveland (15 mins from Redland Bay) to Straddie. Dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, whales are just part of the attraction depending on seasons etc. Fabulous beaches and views. You can take your car on the vehicle ferry, or opt for the passenger ferry or water taxi and just catch a bus once you’re on the island. An absolute must visit!”

“Makes scrumptious fresh bread and croissants each morning which are just short walk away from The Kraken. Staff at Chiller's are VERY chilled and this cafe tends to operate on "island time", so be prepared to wait. Why not join them by soaking up the "slow down" vibes? The warm fresh bread and chocolate croissants are definitely worth any wait!”

“Blue Lake is an area of special cultural significance for Quandamooka people who call the lake Karboora, meaning ‘deep silent pool’. The Blue Lake area is within the Naree Budjong Djara National Park. Please enjoy the experience and leave only footprints. Walk the 5.2km (return) track to the lake through wallum woodlands, flowering heath and stunted eucalypts. Wear good walking shoes, take a hat and water. Medium level of fitness required.”

“Myora Springs is a beautiful spot and source of freshwater that has been used by the traditional owners for thousands of years. Called Moongalba (sitting down place) there is an abundance of freshwater crayfish, prawns, bungwal fern and other plant foods. The banks feature parts of large middens, which contain, among other things, cockle, oyster and whelk shells. Nearby lived a descendant of the Nunukul people, Oodgeroo. She was well known as an author and poet who wrote such books as Stradbroke Dreamtime. Dogs are prohibited in the Myora Springs area.”

Meal Takeaway
“The best pizza outside of Italy! Laura the owner uses her Nonna's recipes and local produce for these amazing wood-fired pizzas. We recommend walking along the beach from The Kraken about half an hour before sunset, calling ahead on 0457 629 782 to order your pizzas (the prawn and chorizo and the smoked chicken are our favs!), so you can collect them in time to eat them fresh from the oven whilst watching the sun go down on Cylinder Beach. Why not take a bottle of bubbly to share?? Warning: wait times can be as long as 1 hour during summer, so consider ordering early!”
