A simple, modern, recently renovated suite w/ private entry, designated parking, & ample outdoor spaces to linger. The garden-level suite, in a quiet Kittery neighborhood, is within easy walking distance to downtown Portsmouth or the Kittery Foreside. Relax on our harbor-side deck or on your own patio w/ morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. Close to beaches, hiking, & some of the region's best dining. Our view of Portsmouth across the Piscataqua River is simply fab. #Suite19Maine on Instagram

Ang tuluyan
Our garden suite is clean, crisp, and well appointed. It sits on the ground level of our home, which is a duplex. The suite has a wall of windows, including a set of french doors that looks over your patio, across our gardens, over the water to Porstmouth. Our property continues across a quiet road to a deck on Portsmouth Harbor.

The suite has a wet bar with a small sink, small fridge, an infrared cook top, microwave, toaster, a coffee press, and tea kettle as well as an outdoor grill. It has modest cooking implements and is sufficient for simple meals. Truthfully, many people visit our area to eat at our amazing restaurants, so we've kept cooking options simple. We try to stock a "first morning" of coffee, tea, olive oil and vinegar, basic spices etc. There is a great produce store and two butcher shops nearby. There is also ample dining of all kinds (take-out, bakeries, BBQ, and fine dining) within walking distance. Our area also has a number of craft and nano breweries. Happily, Uber is available if you choose to sample our local beer.

Your private bath has a spacious, step-in slate rain shower with dimable lighting.

We are a net-zero carbon emissions, sustainable house. The ground level suite is naturally cool in summer. In the winter it has radiant floor heat driven by a wood pellet boiler. Your electricity comes from the sun via our solar array. We use natural cleaning products and stock natural bath products from the ReFill Shop.

The suite bed is a Nectar-brand mattress with both foam and fill pillows. Our sheets and towels are pure, white cotton.

Though a single room the suite includes a place to dine (inside and out- depending on the weather) as well as comfy chairs for reading.

We also have bikes, a beach cooler, and chairs if you need them. We are within a short drive to some beautiful beaches. (We'll be happy to share our favorite spots on the coast!)

We have tenants who, like us, use the backyard and harborside deck, but there are many outdoor options so we can have our own space if we want it. Please note, we have a dog and a three-legged wonder cat and our tenants have a dog too. We keep the suite pet-free to accommodate those with allergies. However, if you do not like animals and won't feel comfortable seeing them in the yard, this is not the place for you.

There is no TV in the suite but our dedicated WiFi will allow you to watch movies and web browse as you wish on your own devices. There is also a Bluetooth compatible Tivoli radio for streaming your own music. That said, we all try to be respectful of each other, so our place is not suitable for party-level acoustics.

We stock a blow drier and small clothing steamer. With advanced notice we are happy to share an iron and board. There is also a cleaner in town that, with advance preparation, will dry clean and press suits for a special event.

A key safe (a code will be provided before arrival) will give you access to the suite.

Our neighborhood sits on a spit of land in the Piscataqua River so we see the boats and hear the area bridges go up and down. We live in a friendly suburban neighborhood that gazes out at the summertime bustle of downtown Portsmouth. Our house sits in the middle of a circle that our quiet road wraps around. You'll often see walkers strolling by between our backyard and waterfront. We can't control when our neighbors mow their lawn or other normal suburban activities. We're 1.2 miles from Market Square in Portsmouth, it takes about 25 minutes to walk there across the Memorial Bridge. Its a lovely walk and saves you the hassle of parking. Its a 15 minute walk in two directions to great bakeries and cafes. Our neighborhood lies adjacent to an area known as "gourmet alley". Where you can purchase artisanal chocolate, fresh made pasta, bread etc... You won't go hungry on your visit.

My husband and I live on the coast and also in the Western Maine mountains in an off-grid, back-country yurt. I've worked in philanthropy for about 25 years and before that I was a teacher. My husband is a university researcher who studies climate science. We have traveled the globe. Now our travel is split about 70% back to places we love (Maine islands, California, and St. John USVI) and 30% new adventures. New Zealand and Argentina are next on our list. I have a deep interest in all things food and sustainable farming and I prefer to cook from local sources even when traveling. We have two pets, the amazing Hopper, a rescue dog from Georgia and Grover the three-legged wonder beast. We prefer to travel with our dog, who is mellow and well-trained, whenever we can. My favorite places are rustic and private in beautiful natural places. My friends refer to my style as "fancy-feral" which is pretty accurate. We like solitude and are very independent, so we don't need much attention. Tell us where the key, the coffee making device, and the extra pillows are and we'll figure out the rest. A perfect day for us would include some tele-skiing, a warm shower, a dram of scotch, a good meal, a game of scrabble, and a comfy sleep...wash, rinse, repeat. Substitute hiking or sailing for skiing in the other seasons and you get the gist of who we are. As a host I try to imagine what I like and provide that for my guests. For example, I like a basic set of cooking utensils, spices, and at least one day's worth of coffee stocked in the kitchens I visit. I like clean spaces, good towels, and natural products available should I forget something. I don't iron much when I travel so you won't find that in our suite, but I do stock a clothing steamer. I want people who visit our home to feel they can have as much privacy as they need but still get the inside scoop on the best places to eat, the best places for walking. When I'm on site in Kittery I'm happy to share a glass of wine at the end of the day, or not. Its your time away!
