The experience will start with introducing ourselves. Let's share our backgrounds to get to know each other.
Then, we will practice several basic greetings that will be useful for tourists while staying in Japan. You can learn these phrases from textbooks but I'll provide some tips you can learn only from a real person, not from books. I also can tell a situation each greeting can be used. Participants practice to pronounce them properly by repeating after me. You will hear how I say and let's practice together! How I conduct the experience will be the same in following sections.
Section 2: Useful phrases while exploring Japan.
Section 3: Some phrases you may hear/use at restaurants/shops.
Section 4: Other useful words.
After these sections, I'll give you some quiz to make sure you remember what you learned with me!
Then, we will have Q and A section. Guests can ask me any questions regarding Japanese language, culture, food, sites and anything you have in your mind! Of course you can ask me questions any time during the experience whenever you want to.
I'll email handouts in advance so that you can see what you will learn. This will be good lesson for beginners/intermediate level but I'll welcome everyone! The main focus for this experience is to connect with people all over the world and get ready for the trip in the future.

I used to live in San Francisco for 12 years and was a preschool teacher/Japanese language teacher. I have more than 6 years of experience to teach Japanese.
Since 2018, I've been offering sushi making experience on airbnb and more than 1000 guests joined it. During the experience, many guests asked me different types of questions about Japanese culture/language especially greetings/phrases that would be useful when they wanted to explore the city by themselves. It is my pleasure to help making their stay in Japan easier and more memorable by teaching those tips because I believe that communicating with locals with their native language will be fun and unforgettable!

Mamoru was fantastic! He put together a workbook for the lesson and emailed it to me. We went through each chapter covering all the basics for language needs when traveling to Japan. He had large cards made with the English pronunciation of the Japanese words. It is perfect for people with no Japanese language experience. I've been studying Japanese for a while now, but this was my first time practicing with someone else who speaks Japanese. He made me feel comfortable and had a great layout. He expanded on things I didn't know yet and was so helpful! He is great at answering questions and has good knowledge of the culture, politeness, recommendations and more. I look forward to repeating more experiences with him to practice getting comfortable speaking the language before my trip. I highly recommend this experience! It is very thoughtfully put together and fun!

Mamoru is a wonderful teacher! He is very patient and experienced. There were a lot of specific examples during the lesson so even the beginners can understand everything easily. It was a good learning experience. I learned a lot of useful phrases and about pronunciation. I don't have a trip planned to Japan yet but it was fun to start learning now. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to be more well rounded and have fun.

We had so much fun learning one on one with Mamoru. The class was perfect in the way we were taught and we were able to ask any question we had about visiting Japan! We have a few great phrases to practice with and I think we even passed the quiz! I highly recommend the experience if you are curious about learning Japanese or would like to visit Japan one day soon. Mamoru is a great teacher! We made our own Japanese breakfast at home beforehand to make it more of an experience. Arigato Gozaimashita!
